Un circuit flexible, dans sa forme la plus pure, est un vaste r\u00e9seau de conducteurs pris en sandwich entre des couches de film di\u00e9lectrique tr\u00e8s fin.<\/p>\n<p>Les Circuits Imprim\u00e9s Flexibles (FPC) offrent le plus haut niveau de miniaturisation 3D. Bien que qualifi\u00e9s de \u00ab\u00a0rigides\u00a0\u00bb, une seule couche de stratifi\u00e9 pr\u00e9sente une certaine \u00e9lasticit\u00e9. C&rsquo;est la r\u00e9sine \u00e9poxy durcie qui conf\u00e8re sa rigidit\u00e9 au circuit. En raison de l&rsquo;utilisation de r\u00e9sines \u00e9poxy, ces circuits sont souvent appel\u00e9s Circuits Imprim\u00e9s Rigides Organiques. Cependant, cette rigidit\u00e9 ne convient pas \u00e0 de nombreuses applications, sauf pour des assemblages simples sans mouvement constant.    <\/p>\n<p>Le mat\u00e9riau le plus couramment utilis\u00e9 comme substrat pour les Circuits Imprim\u00e9s Flexibles est le polyimide (PI). Ce mat\u00e9riau est tr\u00e8s flexible, extr\u00eamement r\u00e9sistant et capable de supporter des temp\u00e9ratures \u00e9lev\u00e9es. <\/p>\n<p>Pour la majorit\u00e9 des applications de circuits flexibles, un plastique plus flexible que la r\u00e9sine \u00e9poxy classique est n\u00e9cessaire. Le polyimide (PI) est le choix le plus r\u00e9pandu en raison de sa flexibilit\u00e9, de sa robustesse (il ne se d\u00e9chire pas et ne s&rsquo;\u00e9tire pas de mani\u00e8re notable \u00e0 la main, ce qui le rend tol\u00e9rant aux processus d&rsquo;assemblage) et de sa r\u00e9sistance thermique exceptionnelle. Cela le rend capable de supporter plusieurs cycles de refusion et de rester stable malgr\u00e9 les variations de temp\u00e9rature.  <\/p>\n<p>Le polyester (PET) est un autre mat\u00e9riau couramment utilis\u00e9 pour les circuits flexibles, mais il ne supporte pas les hautes temp\u00e9ratures requises pour la soudure. J&rsquo;ai observ\u00e9 son utilisation dans des appareils \u00e9lectroniques tr\u00e8s bas de gamme, o\u00f9 la partie flexible comportait des conducteurs imprim\u00e9s (le PET ne supportant pas la chaleur de laminage), et bien s\u00fbr, aucun composant n&rsquo;y \u00e9tait soud\u00e9 \u2013 le contact \u00e9tait \u00e9tabli par une pression brute avec un \u00e9lastom\u00e8re conducteur isotrope. <\/p>\n<p>Dans le produit concern\u00e9 (une radio-r\u00e9veil), l&rsquo;affichage fonctionnait mal en raison de la mauvaise qualit\u00e9 de la connexion du circuit flexible. Ainsi, pour les Circuits Imprim\u00e9s flex-rigides, nous supposerons que nous utilisons exclusivement du film PI (d&rsquo;autres mat\u00e9riaux existent mais sont rarement employ\u00e9s).  <\/p>\n<p>Les films PI et PET, ainsi que les noyaux minces en fibre de verre et r\u00e9sine \u00e9poxy flexible, constituent les substrats courants pour les circuits flexibles. Ces circuits utilisent ensuite des films suppl\u00e9mentaires (g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement en PI ou PET, parfois une encre de masque de soudure flexible) comme couche de couverture (coverlay). Le coverlay isole les conducteurs de surface et les prot\u00e8ge contre la corrosion et les dommages, tout comme le masque de soudure sur un circuit rigide. Les \u00e9paisseurs des films PI et PET varient de \u2153 mil (8,5 \u00b5m) \u00e0 3 mils (76 \u00b5m), avec 1 ou 2 mils (25\u201350 \u00b5m) comme valeurs typiques. Les substrats en fibre de verre et r\u00e9sine \u00e9poxy sont sensiblement plus \u00e9pais, allant de 2 mils \u00e0 4 mils (50\u2013100 \u00b5m).
