Hoewel een <g id=\"gid_0\">printplaat<\/g> niet strikt noodzakelijk is om een elektronisch systeem te maken, bieden ze een handige manier om verschillende circuits met elkaar te verbinden via koperbanen, terwijl ze tegelijkertijd een stevig en betrouwbaar oppervlak bieden voor het monteren van componenten. De printplaat kan een grote invloed hebben op veel elektrische systemen, en er moet altijd zorgvuldig worden nagedacht over de keuze van het gebruikte printplaatmateriaal.  <\/p>\n<p>Enkele belangrijke eigenschappen waarmee rekening moet worden gehouden bij het kiezen van een printplaatmateriaal zijn de di\u00eblektrische constante (Dk), de verliesfactor (Df), de thermische geleidbaarheid (TC) en de thermische uitzettingsco\u00ebffici\u00ebnt (CTE). printplaatmateriaal; een hogere Df-waarde leidt tot een groter verlies. Bovendien neemt het signaalverlies ook toe met de frequentie of de snelheid van de werking. Daarom is het voor het beperken van verlies bij hoge frequenties of hoge snelheden aan te raden een printplaatmateriaal met een lage Df-waarde te kiezen.  <\/p>\n<p>De di\u00eblektrische constante (Dk) van een printplaatmateriaal verandert met de frequentie. Grote variaties in Dk met de frequentie veroorzaken meer signaalvervorming\/vertraging van de stijgtijd, wat minder acceptabel is voor hoogfrequente of hoog-snelle signalen. Daarom is het wenselijk dat, naarmate de signaalfrequentie of snelheid toeneemt, de variatie van Dk met de frequentie steeds kleiner wordt. De Dk van een printplaatmateriaal bepaalt grotendeels de spoorbreedte van gestuurde impedantie transmissielijnen op de printplaat; hoe hoger de Dk-waarde, hoe smaller de spoorbreedte zal zijn voor dezelfde doel-impedantiewaarde. Een hogere Dk-waarde leidt ook tot hoger di\u00eblektrisch verlies. Over het algemeen hebben hoog-snelle\/laag-verlies materialen lagere Dk-waarden. Dk wordt dus een belangrijk elektrisch prestatiecriterium voor materiaalselectie. Voor normaal-snelle\/normaal-verlies materialen varieert de Dk aanzienlijk met de frequentie; voor zeer hoog-snelle\/zeer laag-verlies materialen blijft de Dk effectief constant over de frequentie.
